For the time of use, the business understanding and the data underpins the oversight of the connections and the different business HR with data and with the help of which measures can be taken with wonder to the indispensable introduction markers, benefactors, industry tasks and others (Kanehisa et al., 2014). It has been tested that in the most punctual occasions the data and the information doubts were unsurprising for the end benefactors. Then again, at the current situation, the organizations utilize these administrations to an ever increasing extent, with the goal that the translators and the viable HR can work on their own level to build writes about their own. Information mining and supplies of the examination of information draws in the order through a gigantic arrangement of records and become conspicuous with the relations and the imitations (Fernandes et al., 2015). The machine of Data investigation has a need of more than assessment of the data. In the circumstance of complex endeavors, the administration happens in the affectation with the merger, assortment and examination of the data and afterward improving, researching and changing the examination of models to get persuaded that they make accessible, results that are precise. Moreover, the forecaster of information and the gathering of examination utilize information engineers who have the activity of helping the data sets to get prepared for assessment. The arrangement of information examination helps a gigantic assortment of misuse for the organizations. For example, banks and other fiscal establishments assess the withdrawal and the installment patterns to edge stealing of distinction and double dealing. The promoting and internet business organizations takes on click, the stream study to be unmistakable with the visitors of their sites, those having the probability to buy their merchand ise and ventures (Bazeley Jackson, 2013). The strategy of examination begins with the information array where the measurements engineers become notable with the data they have need of for specific machine of learning and afterward endeavor independently with different associates to unite the device for use. It is essential to concentrate on the thought proc esses and objectives of the business and have data of how the application and execution of its administrations annex to the start of the consequences of the business to bless with the suitable represent developing and estimating the administrations that will be conveyed in up and coming years (Gelman et al., 2014). There are a scope of principled worries that are connected with the extra room, assortment and barrier of the information in the databases or records. The organizations unite and stock up an assortment of information as for the purchasers in their database. These fears that are good in character as associated with such data in the records and are analyzed as for the three perspective explicitly moral liabilities of laborers towards the business, moral tasks of a firm towards their benefactors, and their customers and principled obligations of the clients towards the organization (Holst et al., 2016). The get together and reestablishing of the purchaser data is significant to adjust the client care mapping of the business and expanding their organization. The principled undertakings that associations have in thought to their clients are pivoted pretty much around the gathering of the clear information from the customers, and retouching the blunders uncovered in the information of the buyer. The principled errands that are related with the representatives and staffs are to restrict the surfing, right all through the record of the customers until unavoidability says noisily (Witten et al., 2016). The demographic have noble or moral obligations that likewise have a connection towards furnishing information to the ventures with which they oversee. These future comprehensive of giving direct and complete data when these information are basic and protecting the assignments for not enlightening the data or ruin the data convenient, in the business that are reachable by them (Expsito et al., 2016). Then again, there are a few necessities that are lawfully perceived in nature and that can be finished with the data that have been gathered and gotten by and large by the firm. The legit or moral issues incorporate the satisfaction with the protection precepts regarding the data that have been gotten from the customer base. The way of thinking even encompass up the way toward social event and the way of capitalizing on the data. Concerning the gathering of data from the clients, the business attempts to figure out what the clients are obtaining. Further, the thought process behind conce rning why they are acquiring their buys is likewise surveyed (Kolesnikov et al., 2015). The succeeding moral proposal alludes to the rightness of the information as any fractional facts may direct to cheats in the endurance of the clients. The information that is made by the business have prerequisite of being precise and right with the goal that the endeavor can do appropriate dynamic process and have legitimate data about the clients so they can develop reachable flawless administrations (Blattmann et al., 2016). A privilege of section to the information associated with the clients is a disparate moral proposal so the examiners of information and the information designers can recognize the data with perfection. It is of most noteworthy significance to make misuse that these data can't be put to confirmation by new workers who are not associated with possess with these data. The ease of use has a commitment of being controlled so as to keep up the character information of the clients and losing this information in the mixed up hands. The information must have extra room in such a manner along these lines, that they can be abused each time fundamental. It is of basic hugeness that the client data is kept in a central documentation and all the past data related to the clients are not lost and kept safe (Ott Longnecker, 2015). The collection of the data is initiated and endorsed on in a moral framework. It is seen that the demographic are not down and out while getting hold of the information and by thusly of the customer base get fulfilled. Therefore, it is experiential that has a relationship have a need of experiencing such strides for tolerating the prerequisites of the clients with the goal that they propose broad and important administrations to the clients consequently expanding their returns and offer in the market. Past, Present, and Future

Past, Present, and Future As the NY Times article states, this whole blogging thing began with a single blog by a student five years ago, at the dawn of the Facebook era. Let me share with you an anecdotal history of blogging, what Im doing lately, and how MIT has continued to shape me post-graduation. Since Ive worked in corporate America for about 5 semesters now (they dont get IAP off), I will organize my entry more than I ever have before. Hold me back from making PowerPoint slides!! EXECUTIVE SUMMARY MIT blogging was not always this fancy I put my Course 14 skills to good use MIT alums are cool HISTORY OF MIT BLOGGING Ill keep this short. During my CPW in April 2003 (wow), I took some photos of all the madness and sent them to Matt McGann. You know, the usual: a cappella concerts, liquid nitrogen ice cream, etc. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Matts a big deal so he didnt respond immediately. I am very detail-oriented (some might use a different word here) about stuff like this so I sent him another email in November 2003 asking if I could delete the photos or if he still wanted them. He hired me on the spot to write some photo journals over IAP. Had I known this would have happened, I would have emailed him in September. Good thing I was on pass/no record still. (Check out that linkage not rusty at all!) Drafting my first couple of entries was hilarious. I would make Word documents with photographs of things I was doing and punny captions below, and then email these to Mari to post to the old, old admissions site This was while everyone in the entire office is reading thousands of applications and planning CPW. I believe I wrote 4 entries: making fondue for Valentines day, going to a formal, and then maybe some stuff about playing in the snow. I dont remember anymore Im an old. Sophomore year, we moved to the Institute-wide MIT blogs site and thought we were pretty pro. Matt and I continued to blog and had a few other entries by another student, I believe. People who knew where these were seemed to like them, but they certainly did not click. In fact, I received more comments from older MIT students than I did from prospective students and their parents. (And no First! comments it was the Dark Ages.) Ben realized that the admissions office needed to customize its own site to unleash the magic and bring blogging to the forefront. By junior year, we had created a spiffy website and I had gotten my friends Bryan and Sam jobs. (No kickbacks, though.) WHAT AM I UP TO I now live in foggy, hippie, fair-trade San Francisco. Fortunately it feels quite similar to Cambridge especially with the pi-themed pizzeria. I just finished the incredible two year consulting program at Bain, and now I work for the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. Gordon Moore is the co-founder of Intel (Moores Law!! for all the Course 6ers out there) and he and his wife established this foundation to support the environment, science, and the Bay Area. I work as an investment associate, so I help invest the foundations endowment (just like a universitys) to fund all its excellent grant-making work. HOW MIT HAS SHAPED MY ADULTHOOD SO FAR Its funny how much MIT helped me identify my identity. Like I did back on Conner 2, I still wake up early to go running, and visit the library (1, 2, 3) bi-weekly. MITs emphasis on using what one has learned to better the world certainly resonates with me, and I hope that all of my career and personal (I compost now!) choices continue to reflect this. The best part of graduating and moving to California has been connecting with other recent alums, some of whom I did not know at MIT. We have a semi-shared set of experiences and friends (quantifiable on Facebook) so it makes it much easier to skip the niceties and jump straight to the nerdy pick-up lines. Thanks to all of the meaningful things that nearby alums are up to (e.g., finding breakthroughs in research, starting new companies, planning new transportation systems, making a mark in established firms, investing in new technologies and ideas), I am so proud to wear my brass rat. And I owe a final bravo to all 07s in other cities doing similarly amazing things can I crash with you when I visit? P.S. In case youre as detail-oriented (see above) as I am, the answer is none. I dont remember any 18.06 at all. Past, present, and future Something very important happened on Friday. The final report of the Task Force on the Undergraduate Educational Commons was released. The TFUEC has been working for two and a half years to redesign MITs GIRs (the classes that all undergraduates at MIT are required to take), and this report contains its recommendations. Any changes made on the basis of the recommendations will probably start being implemented a few years from now, so some of you might have a vested interest in knowing what they are. The full report (158 pages) can be read here. The summary of the report (only 11 pages) can be read here. I anticipate that theres going to be a lot of talk about this over the next few months, especially among the undergraduates. Already a couple of the talk lists that Im on have exploded with commentary, and there will be a survey and a forum and meetings and a student report. This process, and the student reaction to it, illustrates something about MIT that I think is very important. At many schools, students only care about policy as relates to the present. If it doesnt affect them while theyre at the school, they dont care about it. And new students dont ever learn that there was a change to begin with, if they arrive after it was implemented. They have no basis to support or condemn it because they dont know that there was anything before it. None of this is the case at MIT. The students at MIT care very deeply about policy changes, even if those changes wont take effect until theyre gone. They take pride in, and memories out of, what theyve experienced, and want future students to be able to have experiences that are as satisfying as theirs were, and there are values that are part of MIT culture, that they believe in, that they wish to uphold for future generations of students. Do you like or live in Simmons? Students were part of the group that decided how to structure the Simmons community, students who never had the chance to live in the dorm that they helped design. You can read their story, as written by Jeff Roberts 01, here. Theres currently a new undergraduate dorm being designed for the old Ashdown building, and current sophomores and juniors are applying to join the new committee my friend and hallmate Mandie 08 made it on. When the residence system was being redesigned, a group of all students wrote the report that saved Dorm Rush (the ability of incoming freshmen to choose their residence after arriving on campus). Matt, who was a senior at the time, was one of the students who wrote it. The changed residence system certainly wasnt going to be implemented in these students time as undergrads, but that didnt stop them from caring that MIT preserve the values of its residence system, that future students be able to have the enriching experiences that they had. By the same token, MIT students care about the past. Through the past, you learn what to expect for and how to shape the future. You learn about the patterns of thought that shape MIT. You learn about the causes that those a few years older than yourself thought were worth fighting for. Most of the young alums enjoy telling the stories of their battles, whether they won or lost them in the former case, they get to relive their triumph to an interested audience, in the latter case, they get to vent their bitterness. I care about the past because Im kind of a history geek, and also because I care about the future. Thats MIT. Its not a complete turnover of opinion every four years, and students having no sense of where the lives that theyre living came from and where theyre going. Its a long and colorful story. Those of us here right now are writing our chapters. What will your chapters be like?

Chapter two: Literature review 2.1 introduction This chapter explores a number of literatures that discusses important concepts and themes of the research project. It explores the features of pluralistic democratic state, analysing definition of democracy; construction of pluralism and understanding of pluralistic democracy in Nigeria. Furthermore, it examines the comprehension of identity conflict; construction of national identity and the dynamics of identity conflict. 2.2 Concept of Ethnicity Ethnicity has its origin and has been used variously in addressing and classifying groups of people, constituting a term of identification. Ethnicity as a word evolved from the late Middle English (distinguishing a person not of the Christian or Jewish faith) via latin ethnnicus, Greek ethnikos (from the word ethnos (nation) (Spencer, 2014). Coupled with, Richard Jenkins relates ethnicity to the Greek word ethnos, as it refers to the social interaction of humans (Orji, 2008). A breakdown of the definition of ethnicity will provide an insight to the different perspectives on the conceptualization of ethnicity. According to Osaghae, ethnicity is â€Å"the employment or mobilization of ethnic identity and differences to gain advantage in situation of competition, conflict and cooperation† (Ukiwo, 2005, p. 4). A comparison of poems by Wilfred Owen “Dulce et Decorum...

A comparison of poems by Wilfred Owen â€Å"Dulce et Decorum Est† and â€Å"Anthem for Doomed Youth† Wilfred Owen fought in the ww1. He enrolled into army at an early age which was probably influenced by the government’s enticing and false advertising. However in the trenches Owen soon discovered the reality of war and how horrific the war was. At first he started to take notes about the conditions. Then later in a military hospital he edited and turned these notes into poetry. â€Å"Dulce et Decorum Est† is a Latin saying widely used and understood, often at the beginning of ww1. The full title is â€Å"Dulce et Decorum EST Pro Patria Mori†; it’s sweet and right to die for your country. In other words, it is a wonderful and high honour to fight and die for†¦show more content†¦In the final stanza Owen writes as if the reader could see the bodies of the deceased soldiers, they would not stop sending young men to war, nor would they tell their children â€Å"the old lie† with â€Å"such high zest†. In the poem Owen uses the first and the second persons; he uses the first and second persons to make the reader think that what he is talking about in the poem he witnessed. He uses for example â€Å"we†,†I† and â€Å"me†. Owen uses the second person when he wants to make us reflect on the cruel reality of was. We can see the third person when Owen is describing how the soldiers are going to fig ht. â€Å"Dulce et Decorum Est† Owen uses a lot of powerful imagery in this poem. He conveys his thoughts through the use of descriptive language techniques such as: metaphors, alliteration and similes. Metaphors are used to. Alliteration makes the reader remember certain phrases, â€Å"Knock kneed†, â€Å"men marched† and â€Å"GAS! GAS!† these are all examples of alliteration and Owen is trying to hammer in the point. Imagine â€Å"Anthem for Doomed Youth† is one of Wilfred Owens best known poems. It’s about the fallen soldiers who didn’t receive their proper burials and it was as if the young soldiers were just sent there to die just like cattle, â€Å"for these who died as cattle†. The affidavit included a statement indicating that Cardillo’s stockholders’ equity exceeded $3 million, a statement that Smith knew to be incorrect. Smith also knew that Cardillo was involved in a lawsuit and that court injunction issued in the case required the company to maintain stockholders’ equity of at least $3 million. Because of the blatant misrepresentation in the affidavit concerning Cardillo’s stockholders’ equity and a sense of uneasiness regarding United Airlines’ payment to Cardillo, Smith had refused to sign the affidavit. When Smith stepped into Rognlien’s office on that day in May 1985, he found not only Rognlien but also Riley and two other Cardillo executives. One of the other executives was Esther Lawrence, the firm’s energetic 44-year-old persistent and chief operating officer (COO) and Rognlien’s wife and confidante. Lawrence, a long-time employee, had assumed control of Cardillo’s day-to-day operations in 1948. Rognlien’s two sons by a previous marriage had left the company in the early 1980s following a power struggle with Lawrence and their father. As Smith sat waiting for the meeting to begin, his apprehension mounted. Although Cardillo had a long and proud history, in recent years the company had begun experiencing serious financial problems. Founded in 1935 and purchased in 1956 by Rognlien, Cardillo ranked as the fourth-largest company in the travel agency industry and was the first to be listed on a national stock exchange. Cardillo’s annual revenues had steadily increased after Rognlien acquired the company, approaching $100 million by 1984. Unfortunately, the company’s operating expenses had increased more rapidly. Between 1982 and 1984, Cardillo posted collective losses of nearly $1. 5 million. These poor operating results were largely due to an aggressive franchising strategy implemented by Rognlien. In 1984 alone that strategy more than doubled the number of travel agency franchises operated by Cardillo. Shortly after the meeting began, the overbearing and volatile Rognlien demanded that Smith sign the affidavit. When Smith steadfastly refused, Rognlien showed him the first page of an unsigned agreement between United Airlines and Cardillo. Rognlien then explained that the $203,000 payment was intended to cover expenses incurred by Cardillo in changing from American Airlines’ Apollo system. Although the payment was intended to reimburse Cardillo for those expenses and was refundable to United Airlines if not spent, Rognlien wanted Smith to record the payment immediately as revenue. Not surprisingly, Roglien’s suggested treatment of the United Airlines payment would allow Cardillo to meet the $3 million minimum stockholders’ equity threshold established by the court order outstanding against the company. Without hesitation, Smith informed Rognlien that recognizing the United Airlines payment as revenue would be improper. At that point, â€Å"Rognlien told Smith that he was incompetent and unprofessional because he refused to book the united payment as income. Rognlien further told Smith that Cardillo did not need a controller like Smith who would not do what was expected of him†. ACT 2 In November 1985, Helen Shepherd, the audit partner supervising the 1985 audit of Cardillo by Touche Ross, stumbled across information in the client’s files regarding the agreement Rognlien had negotiated with United Airlines earlier that year. When Shepherd asked her subordinates about this agreement, one of them told her of a $ 203,000 adjusting entry Cardillo had recorded in late June. That entry, which follows, had been approved by Lawrence and was apparently linked to the United Airlines-Cardillo transaction: Dr ReceivablesUnited Airlines$203,210 Cr Travel Commissions and Fees203,210 Shepherd’s subordinates had discovered the adjusting entry during their second-quarter review of Cardillo’s form 10-Q statement. When asked, Lawrence explanation without attempting to corroborate it with other audit evidence. After discussing the adjusting entry with her subordinates, Shepherd questioned Lawrence. Lawrence insisted that the adjusting entry had been properly recorded. Shepherd than requested that Lawrence asks United Airlines to provide Touch Ross with a confirmation verifying the key stipulations of the agreement with Cardillo. Shepherd’s concern regarding the adjusting entry stemmed from information she had reviewed in the client’s files that the United Airlines payment to Cardillo was refundable under certain conditions and thus not recognizable immediately as revenue. Shortly after the meeting between Shepherd and Lawrence, Walter Rognlien contacted the audit partner. Like Lawrence, Rognlien maintained that the $203,000 amount had been properly recorded as commission revenue during the second quarter. Rognlien also told Shepherd that the disputed amount, which United Airlines paid to Cardillo during the third quarter of 1985, was not refundable to United Airlines under any circumstances. After some prodding by Shepherd, Rognlien agreed to allow her to request a confirmation from United Airlines concerning certain features of the agreement. Shepherd received the requested confirmation from United Airlines on December 17, 1986. The confirmation stated that the disputed amount was refundable through 1990 if certain stipulations of the contractual agreement between the two parties were not fulfilled. After receiving the confirmation, Shepherd called Rognlien and asked him to explain the obvious difference of opinion between United Airlines and Cardillo regarding the terms of their agreement with the chairman of the board of United Airlines. â€Å"Rognlien claimed that pursuant to this confidential business arrangement, the $203,210 would never have to repaid the United. Shepherd’s conversation with Rognlien refused. In fact, as Rognlien knew, no such agreement existed. † A few days following Shepherd’s conversation with Rognlien, she advised William Kaye, Cardillo’s vice president of finance, that the $203,000 amount could not be recognized as revenue until the contractual agreement with United Airlines expired in 1990. Kaye refused to make the appropriate adjusting entry, explaining that Lawrence had insisted that the payment from United Airlines be credited to a revenue account. On December 30, 1958, Rognlien called Shepherd and told her that he was terminating Cardillo’s relationship with Touche Ross. In early February 1986, Cardillo filled a form 8-K statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) notifying that agency of the company’s change in auditors. SEC regulations required Cardillo to disclose in the 8-K statement any disagreements involving accounting, auditing, or financial reporting issues with its former auditor. The 8-K, signed by Lawrence, indicated that no such disagreements preceded Cardillo’s decision to dismiss Touche Ross. SEC regulations also required Touche Ross to draft a letter commenting on the existence of any disagreements with Cardillo. This letter had to be filed as an exhibit to the 8-K statement. In touche Ross’s exhibit letter, Shepherd discussed that the improper accounting treatment given that transaction resulted in misrepresented financial statements for Cardillo for the six months ended June 30, 1985, and the nine months ended September 30, 1985. In late February 1986, Raymond Riley, Cardillo’s legal counsel, wrote Shepherd and insisted that she had misinterpreted the United Airlines-Cardillo transaction in the Touch Ross exhibit letter filed with the company’s 8-K. Riley also informed Shepherd that Cardillo would not pay the $17,500 invoice that Touche Ross had submitted to his company. This invoice was for professional services Touche Ross had rendered prior to being dismissed by Rognlien. ACT 3 On January 21, 1986, Cardillo retained KMG Main Hurdman (KMG) to replace Touche Ross as its independent audit firm. KMG soon addressed the accounting treatment Cardillo had applied to the United Airlines payment. When KMG personnel discussed the payment with Rognlien, he informed them to the alleged secret arrangement with United Airlines that superseded the written contractual agreement. According to Rognlien, the secret arrangement precluded United Airlines from demanding a refund of the $203,000 payment under any circumstances. KMG refused to accept this explanation. Roger Shlonsky, the KMG audit partner responsible for Cardillo engagement, told Rognlien that the payment would have to be recognized as revenue on a pro rata basis over the five-year period of the written contractual agreement with United Airlines. Cardillo began experiencing severe liquidity problems in early 1986. These problems worsened a few months later when a judge imposed a $685,000 judgment on Cardillo to resolve a civil suit filed against the company. Following the judge? s ruling Raymond Riley alerted Rognlien and Lawrence that the adverse judgment qualified as a â€Å"material event† and thus has to be reported to the SEC in a Form 8-K filling. In the memorandum he sent to his superiors, Riley discussed the serious implications of not disclosing the settlement to the SEC: â€Å"My primary concern by not releasing such report and information is that the officers and directors of Cardillo may be subject to violation of rule 10b-5 of the SEC rules by failing to disclose information that may be material to a potential investor. Within 10 days of receiving Riley’s memorandum, Rognlien sold 100,000 shares of Cardillo stock in the open market. Two weeks later, Lawrence issued a press release disclosing for the first time the adverse legal settlement or that Cardillo remained viable only because Rognlien had invested in the company the proceeds from the sale of the 100,000 shares of stock. Additionally, Lawrence’s press release, Roger Shlonsky met with Rognlien and Lawrence. Shlonsky informed them that the press released grossly understated Cardillo’s estimated loss for fiscal 1985. Shortly after that meeting, KMG resigned as Cardillo’s independent audit firm. EPILOGUE In May 1987, the creditors of Cardillo Travel Systems, Inc. forced the company into involuntary bankruptcy proceedings. Later that same year, the SEC concluded a lengthy investigation of the firm. The SEC found that Rognlien, Lawrence, and Kaye had violated several provisions of the federal securities laws. These violations included making false representations to outside auditors, failing to maintain accurate financial records, and failing to file prompt financial reports with the SEC, In addition, the federal agency charged Rognlien with violating the insider trading provisions of the federal securities laws. As a result of these findings, the SEC imposed permanent injunctions on each of the three individuals that prohibit them from engaging in future violations of federal securities laws. The SEC also attempted to recover from Rognlien the $237,000 he received from selling the 100,000 shares of Cardillo stock in April 1986. In January 1989, the two parties resolved this matter when Rognlien agreed to pay the Sec $60,000 How to cite Contract and United Airlines, Essay examples

Potential Growth For UAE and Saudi Arabia

Question: Discuss about thePotential Growth For UAE and Saudi Arabia. Answer: Introduction The potential output describes what the economy is able to generate when entire resource including labor force, technology, natural resources, and equipment are utilized completely. It can as well describe the amount of GDP which a country can achieve upon appropriate employment of the resources (Darrat 2014). A country which is producing at potential output is operating at its full employment. It can as well mean an economic activity level whereby the AD along with AS are consistent with a stable rate of inflation. It is utilized by people who make policies when estimating inflation, and utilize it as an output degree where an increase or decline in prices remains needless (Squalli 2012). The calculation of the rate and level of growth of potential output and consequently comparing it with outcomes with witnessed patterns will help people get the measure of spare capacity grade in economy. In this paper, such concepts as capital accumulation production function, and total factor productivity are used to showcase the level of potential output that can be accomplished by Saudi Arabia and UAE in the next 20 years and key factors. The United Arabs Emirates practices open economy that has a greater per capita income alongside a substantial yearly trade surplus. UAEs fruitful energies at economic divergence have declined the share of GDP anchored on gas and oil output to twenty-five percent (Darrat 2014). Right from the oil discovery in UAE over thirty years ago, the nation has gone through a prominent transformation from a penurious area of small desert princedoms to a contemporary status with a high living standard (Squalli 2012). The government has surged expenditure on creating jobs as well as infrastructure enlargement besides opening up utilities to higher private sector engagement. The UAEs free trade regions offering one hundred percent overseas possession alongside zero taxes thus enticing overseas investors (Squalli 2012). The strategic plan for UAE for next 20 years emphasizes economic diversification and more jobs opportunities creation for nationals via enhanced education alongside escalated sector employment (Darrat 2014). The production function mechanism speaks to the supply side and indicates the link between factor inputs and output. Potential output is denoted by a combination of factors including inputs, capital, and labor, multiplied by total factor productivity. The Cobb-Douglas specification describes the production firm give as Yt=AtLt-1Kt . Yt is actual output in period t, Lt-labor employed as input, K-capital stock, A-TFP, and -share of capital in the national economy (Darrat 2014). The efficiency in labor and capital utilization is linked to improvement in TFP thus leading to higher output. TFP remains observable; and calculated by taking out contribution of capital and labor to actual output. At= Yt/ tLt-1* Kt. This method remains the best of statistical methods because it overrides drawbacks of statistical approaches (Darrat 2014). The potential growth from the Cobb Douglas function method for Saudi Arabia is 4.5% while that of UAE is 5.6% for oil-GDP growth while the non-oil growth is 6.1% and 7.0% respectively for the next 20 years. Capital accumulation describes the profits a company utilizes to enhance the base of its capital. It involves the acquisition of additional assets which can be utilized to establish extra wealth or which shall appreciate in value (Manama 2016). The UAE and Saudi Arabia have the potential of GDP growth basically for both non-oil potential growth and oil potential growth. Both UAE and Saudi Arabia have enjoyed sturdy growth over the previous decade due to high oil prices alongside expansionary fiscal policy by respective governments for development of economy. The President claims that he will use all his powers to make sure that the systems work as required and promises that this will happen by the end of the year. In his proposal, he tells the chairman of the House committee to prepare a bill that is aimed to measure those crossing the US border illegally. The bill targets to improve the equipment and the technology employed at the Southwest border. As a response to the proposed law, Sen. Ron Johnson (R., Wis.) a Republican, who also is the incoming House chair points out that; there was an anticipation of advancing the border legislation with the aim of providing additional fencing, surveillance, bettering visa tracking technology and enforcing the workforce related to this department. The enforcement should be done by making the use of e- verify mandatory, coming up with a system for employers to check the validity of their potential employees being in the USA soil. The senator points out that, the stated measures would be a vital and important component of any prospected immigration reform like the one stated by the president in his proposal. Again, the president points out that, including specific border targets for security improvement is vital in ensuring an evident progress on the run to reforming immigration practices in the US. The president also says that, there is the need to improve the U.S worker programs so as to address the rising demand for workers from outside the country. These workers come into USA country to fill both high and low skill positions that the Americans workers lack. In his proposal to the Congress, the president also addresses the issue of immigration. He points out that, several reforms should be employed so that the tax collection process in the USA is streamlined. The president talked about

Public relations and advertising Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Public relations and advertising - Essay Example The main genre is not to sell products but to provide effective messages or ideas. In such cases the ads look to become as an instrument to stimulate the social awareness in the society (Kolb, 2008). Ads related to social services are much more than simple tokenism. Therefore, such ads should have a sign of professional excellence that motivates people towards action. Many veterans marketing and PR professionals have also emphasized upon the fact that it is very important to make sure that ads have an agreed statement which can generate specific and if possible actions (Wenderoth, 2009). Challenges Just like any other medium of mass communication ads and public relations also have certain negative aspects. In the competitive market the advent of various ad agencies along with the arrival of the billions of products, ideas or services to satisfy the needs of the clients. As a matter of fact this seemed to have become the most important objective of the marketers. Various cases of misl eading and false information in ads have been found (Burgemeister, 2003). However, the issues of the false information can have serious consequences in case of educational and public services. Education is lot more different from other products and services. People would indulge in getting education throughout the life and the risks involved while making consumer behavior is immense. Most of the times, the educational institutions use placement and job assistance as the main USPs to attract the students. This "Public relations and advertising" essay outlines the differences between this two mediums of mass communication, their roles and issues. People would indulge in getting education throughout the life and the risks involved while making consumer behavior is immense. Most of the times, the educational institutions use placement and job assistance as the main USPs to attract the students. But many times it has been seen that the promises made by the educational intuitions through the ad and PR campaigns have not been kept. Many times it has also been found that students have been given wrong information regarding the infrastructure and qualification of the faculties of the institutions. Another important factor with regards to misleading information has been the university affiliation. On many occasions it has been found that after passing out of the colleges the students have faced problems during job interviews regarding university affiliation. It has been discussed above that th e modern day educational sector has become very competitive. Due to increased demand various players have entered the market. Hence, in order to attract the students the companies are using ads and public relations. However, in order to get more number of students and generate revenue the ethical aspects of ads in case of educational sectors have come across certain degree of damage (Rao, 2010). The government and various social and media organizations have started to keep a close eye on the ad strategies adopted by the educational institutions.

Human Hair Profiling with FTIR Spectroscopy and Chemometrics

Human Hair Profiling with FTIR Spectroscopy and Chemometrics Profiling of Human Hairs using FTIR Spectroscopy and Chemometrics Technique AUFA MADIHAH BT MOHAMAD ANWAR Research Proposal Topic Profiling of Human Hairs using FTIR Spectroscopy and Chemometrics Technique. This research is about classifying human hair (subjects) using FTIR and Chemometrics. The subjects should be Malay, Woman and included in one of the age group required. (20-30, 31-40, 41-50, >60) Introduction Background Study Human hair is ÃŽ ±- keratin proteins and contains DNA which are collected as physical evidence in a crime scene. It can provide important information in assisting an investigation. Usually, the evidence (fiber) is obtained by physical contact between perpetrator with victim or/and perpetrator with surrounding or/and victim with surrounding. This theory is based on ‘Locard’s Principle of Exchange’ which states that â€Å"every contact leaves a trace†. The current forensic procedures use comparisons of hair morphology by microscopic examination and mitochondrial DNA analyses. Microscopic examinations of the morphological characteristics of human hairs indicate the thickness, color, shape, body area (e.g. scalp or pubic, axilla (chest, armpit and limb regions)), race and method of removal whether forcibly removed or naturally fall off. In addition, there is not enough data on human hair. There had been a research in differentiating human hair according to the race. Thus, to create additional data about human hair this research will be conducted on different age group. The subjects for this research should be Malay, woman and is included in one of the age group required (20-30, 31-40, 41-50, >60). 200 subjects will be needed and 50 subjects per age group are required. Hair sample will be taken from these 200 subjects and will be examine using FTIR- Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy method. The data obtained will be analyze using Chemometrics. 3.0 Literature Reviews 3.1 Human Hair Hair starts from its root embedded in the follicle, through the dermis, epidermis, stratum corneum, skin, into a shaft and stops at the tip end. Human hair is usually 15-100 µ in diameter. There are three major of regions in human hair that are identifiable using FTIR-ATR (Figure 1). The core or medulla which is 5-10 µ in diameter is being wrapped by cortex which makes up the bulk of the hair. The outermost layer of hair is known as cuticle which it thickness is less than 5 µ. (Feughelman M.et al., 1997) Figure 1: Diagram of human hair cross section using ATR. 3.1.1 Cuticle The external layer of the fiber which consists of flattened overlapping scales is known as cuticle (Figure 2). Cuticle stabilizes the hair. Figure 2: Schematic diagram of illustrating the morphological of a human hair fiber Cuticle cell is separated by the cell membrane matrix (CMM) which is a strong adhesive layer. The CMM is made up of a central, polysaccharide ÃŽ ´-layer in between two ÃŽ ²-layers (lipid rich). Distinct layers, epicuticle, A-layer, exocuticle, and endocuticle can be found in a mature cuticle cell. The distinct layers have different levels of proteins, lipids and carbohydrates. Epicuticle is approximately 80% protein and 5% lipid and it is chemically resistant. The A-layer resists physical and chemical forces and is cystine rich (30%). An illustration of the cross section of developed cuticle cell is shown in figure 3. (Jolles P. et al., 1997) Figure 3: A schematic diagram of the developed cuticle cross section. 3.1.2 Cortex Cortex is covered and surrounded by cuticle. Cortex is responsible for the mechanical properties of the fiber. It is composed of elongated, spindle-shaped cortical cells packed closely that are parallel oriented to the axis of the fiber. Cortical cells are typically 100 µm in length and 5 µm in width aligned along the axis of the fiber. It is made up by fine micro fibrils that are comprised of ÃŽ ±-helical proteins. Macrofibrils (approximately 100-400nm in diameter) is made up of grouped microfibrils which are 7nm in diameter. 60 % of the cortex (by mass) was made up by macrofibrils which were embedded in an amorphous protein matrix. (Jolles P. et al., 1997) 3.1.3 Medulla Medulla is the inner part of the hair fiber. It is also known as core with a diameter of 5-10  µm. The medulla may be completely absent or a double medulla may be observed. It has high lipid content (citrulline). The structure of medulla has a porous structure formed by sponge-like keratin ad some vacuoles filled with air resulting from the differentiation process. The medulla was separated from cortex by CMM. (Jolles P. et al., 1997) 3.2 Chemical Structure 3.2.1 ÃŽ ±-Keratin Proteins Keratin is a part of fibrous structural proteins and is the important material making up the outer layer of human skin and it is also key structural component of hair and nails. In a single fiber, keratin constitutes about 85% of the mass. Condensation of L-amino acids formed polypeptide chains which were contained in high molecular weight polymer (keratin). Peptide bond (links the amino acid) was formed through the condensation. Multiple condensations will produce polypeptide chain which becomes the backbone of the ÃŽ ±-keratin fiber. The reaction was shown in Figure 4: Figure 4: Condensation reactions of amino acids. The side chains (R1 and R2 group) of the amino acid residues for ÃŽ ±-keratin are corresponded to different age group. (Feughelman M.et al., 1997) 3.3 Forensic – Hair as Physical Evidence 3.3.1 What is Forensic and Trace Evidence? Forensic was derived from Latin word forensic which is â€Å"of or used in courts of law†. It also denotes the application of scientific methods and techniques to the investigation of crime. Forensic involves trace evidence which can also be defined as physical evidence of minute in the form fiber (textile, human or animal), soil, glass, fingerprints and tons other that needed to be analyze under microscopic comparison. The presence and recovery of trace evidence is crucial to help in an investigation. DeForest states that â€Å"trace evidence has an important role to play in both the investigative and adjudicative phases of a case†. ‘Locards Principle of Exchange’ stated that â€Å"every contact leaves a trace† is a fundamental theory on how trace evidence could exist in the crime scene. (Fido M. et al., 2003) 3.3.2 The Importance of Hair (Fiber) as Evidence Hair and fibre is important in providing valuable information in identifying the assailant or attacker. The discovery of hair evidence can help in distinguish race and sex. Even though hair is benign dead matter it still contains DNA to be extrapolated. Human hair is usually found in the crime scene as shown in Table 1. It can be naturally shed (normal hair-growth cycle) or forcibly remove. (Robbins C.R., 1994) Table 1: Histogram of the relationship between the frequencies with different types of trace evidence occurs in criminal cases. (Broad J., 1988) 3.4 Current Forensic Methods in Analyzing Hair Evidence 3.4.1 Macroscopic Analysis The hair evidence will first undergo visual examination followed by macroscopic examination of the hair morphology. The physical appearances (length, shape, root, tip, color, etc.) are observed and measured. (Phillips J.H., 1989) 3.4.2 Microscopy 3.4.2.1 Optical Light Microscopy and Stereomicroscopy Stereomicroscope, compound light/polarizing microscope, transmitted light comparison microscope and the laser confocal microscope are four types of microscopes used to examine the hair fiber (evidence). Through light microscope and stereomicroscope, racial origin, species and the somatic (body location) origin can be determined. The scanning laser confocal microscope is used to analyze the transverse cross-section which is important in determining the somatic origin or ethnicity. Comparison microscope is used for next step by comparing the evidence with known fibers from suspect. Conclusions are drawn from all these observations and analysis. (Ogle Jr. R. R. et al., 1999) 3.4.2.2 Scanning Electron Microscopy Scanning Electron Microscopy can be used to analyze trace physical evidence (fibers, paints, glass and gunshot residues. SEM highlights the surface topography of the external cuticle layer in great detail with greater depth of field than a stereomicroscope. (Taylor et al., 1971) SEM is more preferable than Optical Light Microscopy. SEM can identify the species of the fiber evidence. It can differ human fiber from animals or wools or etc. But, â€Å"SEM is difficult for comparison of human hairs because the variability in the surface topography, distribution and appearance of the scales within one head are great, according to the natural and cosmetic history†. Thus, SEM also lack in aiding the investigation involving human hair as evidence. (Kupferschmid T.D. et al., 1994) 3.4.3 DNA Analysis DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) is human genetic code which no one will have the same. DNA is in the cell nucleus and in extra-nuclear organelles of the cell, known as mitochondria. It is responsible in determining our physical characteristics. (Davis C.L., 1998) In hair, there are two sources of DNA traces that can be analyze for forensic purpose which can be found at follicular tissue and the cells on the hair root. The hair that was forcibly removed from head has its root attached. However, most human fiber that found in the crime scene (ca. 90%) is in telogen phase (naturally shed) therefore the hair does not contain a growing root. There are three types of telogen hair: root without any soft tissues remnant root with a small amount of soft tissue attached root with a large amount of soft tissue attached Hair roots that have soft tissues attached contain some cell with nucDNA. A study was conducted to investigate the nucDNA content in anagen versus telogen hair fibers. No nucDNA copies were detected in the shed hairs while the plucked hair contains an average 25,800 nucDNA.(Andreasson et al.,2006) In 2001, a series of single Short Tandem Repeats (STR) typing steps and during consecutive polymerase chain reaction (PCR), DNA that had been extracted from the hair was fixed onto a membrane. (Hellman A. et al., 2001) In 2010, a proposal of a new screening test to visualize DNA with 4-6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) which is a fluorescent molecule that binds on the double-stranded DNA, between A and T base pairs. The visible nuclear DNAs can be count with the use of a fluorescence microscope and it can quickly discard hair that is less suitable for STR-typing. Thus, the attention was given to hair with highest potential for results. (Bourguignon et al., 2010) 3.5 FTIR Spectroscopy Fourier-transform Spectrometer is used in infrared absorption spectroscopy. Fourier-transform is a mathematical process. The term Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy is originated from the fact that a Fourier transform is needed to convert the raw data into the actual spectrum. Dispersive spectrometer which measure intensity over a small range of wavelengths at a time is different with FTIR spectrometer which simultaneously collects spectral data in a large spectral range. Thus, FTIR is more preferable. Figure 5 show a diagram that represents Michelson interferometer. From a broadband source a radiation strikes the beam splitter. Some the light is transmitted to a stationary mirror and some of the light are reflected to a movable mirror and the moving mirror is not in phase. A pattern called an interferogram which contains all the frequencies that make up the IR spectrum was produce by interfering constructively and destructively. The interferogram can be decomposed into its comp onent wavelengths which will resulted in a plot of intensity versus frequency. (Griffiths P.R. et al., 1986) Figure 5: Schematic diagram of the Michelson Interferometer. 3.6 Chemometrics and Forensic Science Chemometrics is the chemical discipline that uses statistical or mathematical methods to chemical data while forensic science is a discipline that formulates conclusions on a purely objective basis. It is compulsory for forensic scientist to follow strict and rigid statistical protocols in reaching a conclusion regarding analytical data. Thus, chemometrics is vital as it is capable in generating multidimensional data. By using chemometrics conclusions of research and analysis data can be obtained. (Bereton R.G., 2003) Chemometrics research can cover various areas of different methods and can be used in chemistry. There are methods for: Collecting data Optimization parameters of the parameter Experiments Design Calibration and signal processing Getting knowledge from the data Statistics Structure-property-relationship estimations Chemometrics helps in building a connection between the techniques and their application in chemistry. (Beebe K.R. et al., 1998) 4.0 Problem Statement These days when a crime occur it is hard to find the perpetrator due to lack of evidence. Although there is evidence but, there is no data that is available to describe the perpetrator. For an example, human fiber or hair can be found in crime scene. However without the data, the hair which is also evidence can’t be identified. Furthermore, there is no research in finding whether there is difference in human hair of different age group. Moreover, can FTIR and chemometrics helps in profiling human hair research. Objectives There are several aims or objectives that this research holds: To further the investigation regarding human scalp hair (fibers) to create new database about human hair in different age group. To determined and classified the differences of human scalp hair according to their respective age group. To analyze the FTIR data using Chemometrics.

Recreational Property Negligence :: essays research papers

M E M O R A N D U M TO:  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   FROM:  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   DATE:  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   RE:  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Cole Gershwin- Immunity for Negligence on Recreational Property _________________________________________________________ I.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  STATEMENT OF FACTS Our Client, Mr. Cole Gershwin, is considering suit against the Chicago School District for injuries sustained as a result of tripping in a pothole. Gershwin, a teacher at Washington Elementary School, alleges that on October 10, 2000 at 12:20 pm, he was walking from the school to the teacher’s parking lot, and tripped in a pothole and fell. The walkway where Gershwin fell is adjacent to a parking lot that was converted from a portion of the playground area. The walkway is used by teachers to travel to and from the parking lot. The walkway is marked with yellow stripes and is bordered on the southern edge by orange construction cones that the school is going to replace with additional fencing. There is a sign on the fence separating the parking lot from the walkway that reads: â€Å"Walkway for Teachers Only.† Students occasionally use the walkway as a â€Å"safe† zone for games of tag. II.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  QUESTION PRESENTED Whether school property, classified as recreational and cursorily used by students during their recreation, immune from civil action under the Illinois Tort Immunity Act 3-106; when the school has the area sectioned off implying that it does not intend for the property to be used recreationally. III.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  CONCLUSION No. The elements necessary to make the property recreational are not satisfied in this situation. The school district shows no intended use of the property for recreational purposes, nor does it show permitted use of the property for recreational purposes. Although the walkway is occasionally used by children for games of tag, this is incidental usage of the property, and thus  § 3-106 is inapplicable. Additionally, the primary purpose of the walkway is to facilitate travel to and from the parking lot, making the walkway nonrecreational in character. IV.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  DISCUSSION Immunity from liability is determined by examining the character of the property in question. In order to establish immunity, the school board must show intent for the property to be used for recreation, or that the property is permitted to be used for recreational purposes, where that use is not incidental. Factors that weigh on the court’s decision to identify property as recreational include the overall usefulness of the walkway to facilitate access to the recreational facility, the primary purpose of the walkway, and viewing the property in question as a â€Å"unified whole.

Ignorance Does Not Discriminate

â€Å"Everything that Rises Must Converge†: Ignorance Does Not Discriminate The short story â€Å"Everything that Rises Must Converge† by Flannery O’Connor describes how ignorance has no boundaries. The story of a young man named Julian and his prejudice mother living a time following the end of segregation. Julian despises his mother’s need to feel superior and pities her ignorance. Julian is conflicted by the fact that his mother will never change and toys with different ways to teach her a lesson and end her superiority complex. The story ends tragically with both Julian and his mother learning a very difficult lesson- that ignorance does not discriminate. Julian’s mother is trapped in a time when she feels superior to Negros because of her skin color, last name and family history. Julian struggles to make her understand that times have changed and she is no better than anyone else regardless of her history. In contrast, Julian’s mother attempts to elevate his worth by reminding him of the sacrifices she has made to enable him to have privileges such as nice teeth and a college education. These things should make Julian feel superior as well. The irony of this story is that despite the constant struggle to teach each other a lesson about equality, a stranger showed both Julian and his mother that they were both equally ignorant. When Julian’s mother is physically assaulted by a negro woman for a simple gesture, the lesson begins. Though meant to be kindness to a child, Julian’s mother was completely ignorant about how offensive the gesture was to the child’s mother. As Julian watched the event with satisfaction that his mother was finally being taught her lesson in equality, Julian unknowingly allowed a stranger’s ignorance to take his own mother in return for a lifetime of regret and guilt. The negro woman loses her temper and Julian’s mother loses her life. Because all three characters refuse to be patient and open minded with each other, no one wins. Julian and his mother lose the most. The negro woman and her child lose also. She lost the opportunity to show her child a better way to deal with ignorance. She also walked away with a bit more hate in her heart. Thus the ignorance will likely continue to be paid forward.

Family Interview Wendy Lankford - 944 Words

Family Interview Wendy Lankford was raised within a â€Å"traditional† family and grew up alongside her mother, father, and younger brother in my home state of Maryland. Today, she is married to Shane Lankford and together they care for three adopted sons; ages 22, 7, and 4. Wendy is a stay at home mom who is also actively engaged in her church community and with several nonprofit service groups. Both she and her husband have dedicated themselves to raising awareness and working on behalf of orphans, those with special needs, and those living in poverty. I met Wendy in January of 2014. That year, my brother (who was 20 at the time), was due to â€Å"age out† of the foster care system. He was unprepared to lose the housing and assistance he relied on and I was unable to provide all he needed at that time. Upon hearing of our dilemma though a mutual acquaintance, the Lankford s opened their home and their hearts to my brother and eventually welcomed him into their family through an informal adoption. Since being adopted, he has made remarkable positive strides in his emotional development, self efficacy, and outlook for his own future. The Lankford s have given him the type of stable and nurturing home life, supportive role modeling, and loving family atmosphere that we as (future) educators hope all children and youths have available to them. Because of how she touched my brother’s life, Wendy was the first parent whom I thought to interview for this assignment.
